The Abbott had set out from Tulna without saying a word to anyone, not even to Cassandra. There were things he knew that were coming, events that needed to unfold without the interference of himself or the Guardian of the Wilds.

There were also things that the Abbott had to attend to at the Spire. It was easy for mortals and even those in Tulna to forget that there were other things that the Abbott had a multitude of duties to attend to that went far beyond dealing with the immediate future and the lives of individual mortals.

He was sat in his room in the oasis one moment, then after closing his eyes, he opened them, having been transported to the three pillars.

He smiled and shook his head as he approached them. No matter what else happened in the realm, he was always drawn back to this spot.

He reached up and touched the emblems on each of the pillars, the worn surfaces of the stone feeling familiar, almost comforting beneath his fingers.

After a few moments the air around him began to ripple and the doors to the Spire appeared before him, the cold dark stone looking almost forbidding in the fading light. He waited for a few moments for the doors to change from the navy colour that looked almost black to the iridescent pale doors with a smooth surface that he was used to seeing, but they remained unchanged.

As he waited the rest of the Spire began to materialise. The great monument looming out of the darkness, overshadowing the land that surrounded, a stark contrast to the snow flecked landscape.

“I see,” He murmured to himself and placed a hand on the stone door. It swung open under the pressure and revealed a single room that was as dark and forbidding as the exterior of the Spire.

In the centre of the room was a pedestal, a long slim knife lying across it and at the base of it a large round basin that was shallow but etched with runes that the Abbott had only ever seen in books before.

Behind the pedestal was a vast altar that had a variety of different artefacts from the nine nations of Celadmore displayed upon it.

The Abbott entered the Spire without a word and carefully examined the room, trying to fathom why the Spire had presented him with such a terrifying and intimidating room.
